The Perimeter Map: Unlocking the Full Extraction Experience
Perimeter is the gateway map in Marathon, offering an unrestricted shooter adventure without the limitations of the Beginner variant. Picture a vast, open landscape with key POIs strategically spaced, allowing players to explore and loot freely, away from the constant interference of USEC forces.
This guide will take you through the notable POIs on Perimeter, reveal the map's top loot spots, and provide valuable insights to kickstart your Marathon career.
Perimeter's Key POIs and Their Secrets
Perimeter, the simplest yet captivating zone in Marathon, is a flat expanse with key locations spread across its expanse. Situated on the frontier of the colony's expansion zone, it serves as a barren, sparsely populated area guarded by the USEC. This makes it a popular haunt for Runners seeking a quick USEC takedown or a lucrative loot haul.
The key POIs on Perimeter include:
- North Relay
- Station
- Hauler
- Overflow
- South Relay
Additionally, Perimeter (Beginner) boasts several smaller POIs and regions:
- Data Wall
- Tunnels
- East Wall
- Ravine
- Columns
Unveiling the Best Loot Spots on Perimeter
The North Relay, Station, Hauler, Overflow, and South Wall are Perimeter's (Beginner) crown jewels, offering rare weapons, valuable loot, and exclusive rewards accessible only with specific keycards or unlock codes.
However, these areas are heavily guarded by USEC forces, so be prepared to engage or evade them while looting.
North Relay: A Treasure Trove of Loot and Buildings
The North Relay is a pivotal USEC stronghold on Tau Ceti IV, often hosting Exfil points and Run activities. Its large buildings and facilities are brimming with crates of loot and USEC forces.
Key loot spots within the North Relay include:
- NuCaloric Research Building: The second floor is a treasure trove of rare implants, valuables, and transmutable resources. Keep an eye out for rare Lockboxes, but beware, their keys are scarce in the Perimeter (Beginner) iteration.
Station: A Complex of Loot-Filled Buildings
The Station is an expansive complex of interconnected buildings on Perimeter's eastern side. Within this POI, you'll discover numerous chests and containers brimming with loot.
- Tox Clear Room: Located in the south-western building of the Station, this room houses a set of Treasures.
Hauler: A Challenge for the Bold
The Hauler is a formidable building on the western side of the map, home to some of the most challenging enemies and rare loot. Be well-prepared, as survival is no easy feat, especially in the Beginner variant of the Perimeter map.
- Upper Floor Locked Room: This room holds extremely valuable loot, but you'll need the Hauler Observation Key, either from a previous run or your current one, to unlock its treasures.
Overflow: A Research Building with a Twist
Overflow is a large research building south of Perimeter, teeming with challenging enemy forces and rare loot opportunities.
- Central Building Locked Room: This locked room within the southern large building is guarded by a priority enemy target, making it a formidable challenge to access.
Perimeter PvP Tips: Mastering the Map
Perimeter presents a unique challenge with its blend of buildings and open, rural hillsides. To avoid unexpected encounters with other Runners or lone Rook runners, stick to buildings as much as possible, staying indoors and minimizing your exposure.
The map's verticality, thanks to the southern hillsides and various buildings, offers strategic advantages. Gaining higher ground with cover can give you the upper hand against the UESC and enemy Runners. Remember, having an escape route or retreat point is crucial when utilizing the height elevation of buildings, walkways, and rockfaces to your advantage in gunfights.
