A New Era Dawns at SEI: Eeva Primmer Takes the Helm as Executive Director!
Get ready for a fresh wave of leadership at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) as Eeva Primmer steps into the pivotal role of Executive Director, commencing her tenure on May 1, 2026. This appointment marks a significant moment, bringing a wealth of experience from the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) where she has been instrumental as Research Director since 2019. But here's where it gets truly impactful: Primmer's leadership at Syke wasn't just about managing research; she was the driving force behind ensuring its quality, integrity, and real-world impact. She championed crucial work on societal change and information quality, a vital bridge ensuring that scientific findings actively inform and bolster policy and implementation, steering us toward a more sustainable future.
And this is the part most people miss: Primmer's influence extends far beyond her national institution. Since 2020, she has also served as the first deputy to Syke’s Director General, demonstrating her readiness for high-level leadership. Her engagement in international science-policy arenas is equally impressive. She's a distinguished Bureau Member of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and a Panel Member of the UNEP International Resource Panel (IRP).
