Nebraska's Defensive Line Gains a Powerful New Addition: Owen Stoudmire
The Nebraska Huskers have secured a significant commitment from defensive tackle Owen Stoudmire, a seasoned player with a story of resilience. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 292 pounds, Stoudmire is a force to be reckoned with on the interior defensive line. But here's the twist: he's not a newcomer to college football; he's a seasoned veteran with a unique journey.
Stoudmire, a former Boston College Eagle, has one year of eligibility left and is ready to make his mark. His career began in 2021, redshirting as a freshman, and over the next two seasons, he appeared in 19 games as a reserve player, making 17 tackles. But it was in 2024 that he truly emerged, starting two games and setting career highs in tackles (30), tackles for loss (3.5), and sacks (2.5).
And this is where his story takes an unexpected turn. In 2025, Stoudmire earned a starting role, but fate had other plans. After just three starts, he suffered a season-ending injury, cutting his momentum short. Despite this setback, he finished the season with five tackles.
Fast forward to January 14, 2026, and Stoudmire entered the transfer portal, seeking a new beginning. The very next day, he visited Nebraska, and soon after, he committed to the Huskers, bringing valuable experience and depth to their defensive line.
Stoudmire's role at Nebraska is clear: to fortify the run defense in the A and B gaps while contributing to the pass rush. He joins a talented group of interior linemen, including Riley Van Poppel, Gabe Moore, and several others. The Huskers are also in the running for highly-rated defensive lineman Dylan Berymon, who recently visited the campus.
However, the Huskers have faced some defensive line departures this offseason, with Elijah Jeudy and Jaylen George moving on. Dylan Parrott also briefly considered transferring but ultimately decided to stay. Stoudmire's addition is a significant move to bolster the team's defensive strength, and his impact is sure to be felt on the field.
