A concerning incident has unfolded at an Ipswich nursery, sparking a response from the education watchdog, Ofsted. A parent's fears for their child's safety have led to a crucial safeguarding review.
The Peartree Kindergarten in Conway Close found itself under scrutiny after a parent voiced worries about their child's well-being. Ofsted stepped in, offering guidance to the nursery on January 22nd, following the parent's concerns raised the previous week.
But here's where it gets controversial: the parent claimed the pre-school had failed in its duty of care, prompting them to remove their child. The issue? Staff in the room were allegedly unable to ensure the child's safety.
In response, Ofsted conducted a regulatory telephone call, finding that the nursery was indeed not meeting some safeguarding requirements. However, the provider had taken proactive steps to rectify the situation.
"The provider has responded proactively, setting clear expectations for staff, including the Designated Safeguarding Lead, to accurately record incidents on the day they occur," Ofsted stated. "These improvements will enhance our ability to identify and monitor emerging themes, ensuring children remain safe from harm."
The nursery's spokesperson defended their actions, stating, "We followed all necessary steps as per statutory safeguarding guidance. This involved contacting the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and seeking advice from Suffolk County Council."
They further added, "We acted swiftly and in line with professional advice, addressing the concerns raised. We have been fully transparent with Ofsted and accepted their guidance. They have confirmed that no further action or corrective measures are required."
And this is the part most people miss: despite the initial concerns, The Peartree Kindergarten remains registered with Ofsted, indicating that the necessary improvements have been made.
